Small Business Energy Audit Program

PURPOSE
The program provides free walk-through energy audits for small to medium sized commercial, non-profit, and manufacturing facilities. The audits identify possible energy savings.
SELECTION CRITERIA
- Limited to ≤ 50 employees or sales ≤ $5 million;
- Eligible companies have no in-house engineering staff;
- For an effective energy assessment, the business needs to provide Efficiency Maine with a copy of one year’s worth of utility and heating bills prior to receiving the audit;
- Business must provide Efficiency Maine with their Federal Tax ID number; and,
- Business must agree to participate in audit follow-up in 6 months to a year.
Because of resource limits, schools, hospitals, nursing homes, private residences, or businesses with residential components such as apartment houses, camps, or condominiums are not eligible for participation in this program.
PROCEDURE
The type of audit offered is considered a “walk-through” audit. This is NOT an engineering analysis. The energy auditor will spend a portion of one day, (typically several hours), at the facility conducting onsite interviews with company personnel and touring the facility.
An assessment is made based on the information gathered, with a written audit report subsequently delivered to the company within a reasonable time frame. This report will contain information and recommendations for potential energy savings and well as information
on financial options which may be available to help pay for suggested energy improvements.
