Linear fluorescent lamps are the dominant type of lighting currently used in business applications. Recent advances in fluorescent lamps and electronic ballasts have created the opportunity for significant energy savings when replacing any prior generation of fluorescent lighting.

Compact Fluorescent Lighting (pdf)

Compact fluorescent lighting is an efficient replacement, or substitute, for incandescent lighting.

High Intensity Fluorescent Lighting (pdf)

With the recent improvements in the performance of fluorescent lighting, high intensity fluorescent (HIF) lighting for industrial and athletic facilities has become a viable option.

Emergency Exit Signs (pdf)

Because of limited operating hours, Efficiency Maine does not typically provide incentives for emergency lighting. The one exception is for emergency exit signs that are continuously illuminated.

Automatic Lighting Controls (pdf)

The simplest and often most effective way to save energy on lighting, is by turning lights off. Automatic lighting controls offer an inexpensive, effective way to minimize lighting costs, by turning unneeded lights off, or in some cases, dimming lights.

Occupancy Sensors (pdf)

Occupancy sensors, also known as motion sensors, offer an inexpensive and effective means of reducing energy costs by turning off lights when rooms or areas are unoccupied.

Office & Classroom Lighting (pdf)

Lighting is typically the largest energy user in commercial and educational buildings. Technological advancements and lighting design techniques provide a range of options for improving lighting in commercial and educational spaces.
