Grants for Technical Assistance Studies are available to help develop Custom Measure projects for your customers?

In-depth Technical Studies are performed by impartial technical experts and provide customers with the unbiased information they need to make informed choices about the value of proposed investments in energy-efficient technologies and, hence, the value of program participation. In addition, these cost-shared studies educate Maine’s engineering community about emerging technologies and how to develop business opportunities around them. These studies also help introduce new technologies into the Maine marketplace by demonstrating the variety and cost-effectiveness of their applications.

In all cases you must contact Efficiency Maine to discuss the proposed project and Technical Study before initiating a grant application.

To learn more about Technical Assistance Studies, guidelines and eligibility, and the grants Efficiency Maine offers call 866-376-2463.

Slow down your motors and save with...
Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)

Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), are solid state devices used to control the speed at which the shaft of an electric motor operates. These drives are widely used to provide efficient control for systems operating with variable loads. The drives function by modulating the frequency of the AC output signal in response to fluctuations in a process variable such as pressure in a pipe. When the pressure begins to deviate from the desired set point, the VFD adjusts the frequency of the output signal, either speeding up or slowing the motor shaft, and brings the pressure back to the desired set point.

The energy savings resulting from VFD installations can be very significant when compared to systems controlled by modulating valves or dampers. The magnitude of the savings is highly dependent upon the extent of variation in load for the process, but frequently exceeds 50% of baseline consumption, and occasionally is as much as 75% of this number.

Efficiency Maine offers prescriptive incentives for VFDs controlling HVAC fans and pumps ranging from 7.5 to 20 HP. Incentives related to other VFD installations may be applied for using the Custom VFD application form.

The Efficiency Maine website includes applications for VFD incentives, and a Technical Information Sheet with more information relating to VFDs can be accessed at the following link. http://efficiencymaine.com/pdfs/Variable-Frequency-Drives.pdf

Learn more about VFDs and the cash incentives Efficiency Maine offers by calling 866-376-2463.
